Wind Mitigation

Wind Mitigation Inspections are conducted to identify certain features that resist damage from hurricane force winds and debris. Discounts are provided only with proper photographs & building code documented proof by a certified, properly trained, inspector. Some of the qualifying credits are listed below:
Roof Covering
If all roof surfaces on the home have been replaced with a permit after 3/1/2002
Roof Deck Nailing
Identifying what type of roof deck is in use (Plywood, OSB, Dimensional Lumber) and the type and spacing of fasteners used to secure the roof decking.
Roof to Wall Attachment
Metal straps or clips securing the roof truss or rafter to the top of the wall of the house with a minimum number of nails.
Roof Shape
Homes with a pure hip roof (>90%) are eligible for a discount as these roofs resist wind speed and pressure better than flat or gable shaped roofs.
Secondary Water Barrier
A self adhering membrane applied beneath tile, shingle, and metal roofs directly to the roof deck. This feature prevents water from infiltrating the home in the event the roof covering itself blows off.
Opening Protection
All glass surfaces on the house (including skylights, garage door glass, fixed windows, windows, etc) must be protected with Florida Building Code approved shutters or impact rated glass.
